The Jugowski Potok (German: Hausdorfer Bach) is a mountain stream in south-western Poland, in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. It rises in the Owl Mountains and is a left tributary of the Włodzica, within the Oder basin.[1][2][3]

According to regional and municipal planning documents, the Jugowski Potok is 9.4 km (5.8 mi) long and has a catchment area of 19.2 km2 (7.4 sq mi).[4][2]

Course

The stream rises on the southern slopes of Kozia Równia in the Owl Mountains, at about 900 m (3,000 ft) above sea level. In the official Polish geographical names register, Jugowski Potok is classified as an official named potok (stream) in Kłodzko County.[1]

In its upper course the Jugowski Potok drains the south-western slopes of the Owl Mountains. It flows down the valley of Jugów, and farther downstream reaches Nowa Ruda, where it enters the Włodzica in the district of Drogosław.[2][5]

Hydrology and flood protection

The Jugowski Potok belongs to the Włodzica water body in the Nysa Kłodzka catchment. A state monitoring point designated “Jugowski Potok – powyżej Jugowa” (“above Jugów”) was listed in the Polish Journal of Laws for surface-water assessment.[6]

Recent planning documents for the Nowa Ruda area identify the Jugowski Potok as a stream requiring flood-protection works; one regional strategy lists channel regulation on a section of about 7 km (4.3 mi).[7] In 2025, Wody Polskie announced repair works to the regulatory walls of the stream in Jugów.[8]

Name

The current official Polish name is Jugowski Potok.[1] In post-war Polish official nomenclature, the historical German name was recorded as Hausdorfer Bach.[3] Historical German topographic mapping of the former county of Glatz included the area of Jugów (German: Hausdorf) on pre-1945 Messtischblatt sheets.[9]
