The Włodzica (German: Walditz) is a river in south-western Poland, in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. It is a mountain river of the Nowa Ruda Depression and a tributary of the Ścinawka, within the Oder basin.[1][2]

According to the Nowa Ruda municipal climate adaptation plan, the Włodzica is the most important and longest mountain river of the Nowa Ruda Depression. The river is 21.3 km (13.2 mi) long and its catchment area covers 108.1 km2 (41.7 sq mi).[1]

Course

The Włodzica rises near the village of Dworki and drains waters from the Włodzickie Hills, the north-eastern slopes of the Suché Mountains, and the south-western slopes of the Owl Mountains. Its general course runs parallel to the Włodzickie Hills.[1]

The river flows through the area of Ludwikowice Kłodzkie, Nowa Ruda and Włodowice, and enters the Ścinawka near Włodowice and Ścinawka Górna.[3]

In the Nowa Ruda area, the river is partly regulated, while over most of its course it remains an unregulated mountain stream with a swift current.[1]

Tributaries

The tributaries of the Włodzica include Sowi Potok, Jugowski Poto, Piekielnica and Woliborka.[1]

Flooding

The Włodzica has historically posed a flood risk in the valley of Nowa Ruda. The municipal climate adaptation plan states that during periods of heavy rainfall and spring snowmelt the stream creates a serious flood hazard, and that it has overflowed its banks on several occasions. The most serious recent flood mentioned in the document occurred on 7 July 1997.[1]

Settlements

The river flows through or past the following settlements:
