The 2014 Tennessee House of Representatives election was held on November 4, 2014, to elect 99 seats for the Tennessee House of Representatives. The elections coincided with the Governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and State Senate elections.
Republicans maintained their supermajority in the state house, gaining 2 seats.[3]
Background
In January 2014, long-time Democratic incumbent Charles Curtiss, who represented District 43, resigned to become the executive director of the Tennessee County Commissioners Association.[4] Following his resignation, the White and Warren County commissions appointed Republican Paul Bailey to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the 108th General Assembly.[5] Bailey did not seek election to the House seat, instead successfully running for the Tennessee State Senate.[6] In the general election, Democrat Kevin Dunlap narrowly reclaimed the seat for his party, defeating Republican Robert Dunham by just 54 votes.[7]

Incumbent Representative Joshua Evans decided to run for the Tennessee Senate. Sabi "Doc" Kumar won the Republican primary on August 7, 2014, with 44% of the vote.[9] On November 4, 2014, Kumar won the General Election unopposed.[10] Kumar became the first Indian American to be elected to the Tennessee State House.[11]
Kyle Roberts, the only Democrat running, suspended his campaign before the primary election and endorsed Republican Chris Odorff in the Republican primary. Roberts remained on the Democratic primary ballot but did not appear on the general election ballot.[12]
