General elections were held in the U.S. Virgin Islands on November 7, 2006 in order to elect the goverbor, 15 members of the Legislature and the delegate to United States House of Representatives. Incumbent Democratic governor Charles Wesley Turnbull was term-limited and couldn't run for re-election to a third term in office. John de Jongh failed to win in the first round by just 2 votes,[1] since no candidate received a majority in the general election, as required by the Revised Organic Act of the Virgin Islands, a runoff was held between John de Jongh and Kenneth Mapp, the two top vote getters.[2]
