The Woliborka (German: Volpersdorfer Bach) is a mountain stream in south-western Poland, in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. It is a left tributary of the Włodzica and belongs to the Oder river basin.[1][2]

According to planning documentation for the Oder basin flood-protection programme, the Woliborka is about 9.7 km (6.0 mi) long; local municipal documentation gives its catchment area as about 15.3 km2 (5.9 sq mi).[3][4]

The official Polish hydronym Woliborka was established in post-war standardization lists, while historical German-language regional works record the stream under the local name Volpersdorfer Bach and preserve the related valley name Schwarzbachgrund in the Nowa Ruda area.[5][6][7]

Course

The Woliborka rises in the Owl Mountains. The Nowa Ruda climate adaptation plan describes it as a left tributary of the Włodzica whose sources are located in the mountains above the Nowa Ruda basin.[1] The stream then flows through the village of Wolibórz and continues toward Nowa Ruda, where it enters the Włodzica.[8][2]

The historical German settlement geography of the area shows Volpersdorf (now Wolibórz) stretching from the lower ground westward toward the heights of the Owl Mountains, matching the stream's westward descent toward Nowa Ruda.[7]

Hydrology

The Woliborka is one of the smaller mountain watercourses of the Nowa Ruda area. In flood-protection planning for the Kłodzko Basin it is treated as a separate stream requiring channel regulation and maintenance; the planned works covered about 7 km (4.3 mi) of channel, with the full stream length given as approximately 9.7 km (6.0 mi).[3]

Municipal documents classify the Woliborka catchment at about 15.3 km2 (5.9 sq mi).[4]

Flood risk and management

The Woliborka is included in recent and ongoing flood-management and maintenance works administered by Wody Polskie. In 2025 the Regional Water Management authority in Wrocław announced post-flood works in the commune of Nowa Ruda on the streams Dzik, Woliborka, Czerwionka and Jugowski Potok, including the removal of blockages and repair of channels.[9]

The stream is also listed in environmental-water planning documents connected with the Kłodzko Basin flood-protection programme.[10]
