Latvia–Norway relations are the bilateral relations between Latvia and Norway. Both countries are members of the Nordic-Baltic Eight, the Council of Europe, Joint Expeditionary Force, NATO and the OSCE.[1]

Around 10,000 Latvians live in Norway.[2]

History

Norway recognised the Republic of Latvia on February 5, 1921.[3]

The Norwegian Embassy in Riga opened on November 27, 1991.[2]

Latvia opened its embassy in Oslo in 1996.[4]

Visits

In December 2022 Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre attended the Joint Expeditionary Force summit in Riga.[5]

In May 2025 Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa attended the Joint Expeditionary Force summit in Oslo.

In February 2026 Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže visited Tromsø and Oslo for talks with the Foreign Minister of Norway Espen Barth Eide and Trade Minister Cecilie Myrseth. Regional security, support for Ukraine and Arctic issues were discussed.[6]
