Kuruluş: Orhan (lit. 'Establishment: Orhan' ) is a Turkish historical drama television series that depicts the life and reign of Orhan, the second sultan of the Ottoman Empire. Produced by Mehmet Bozdağ under Bozdağ Film, the series serves as a direct sequel to Kuruluş: Osman and the third installment in the Diriliş: Ertuğrul. The series follows Orhan's efforts to strengthen and expand the early Ottoman beylik amid political rivalries, warfare, and personal struggles. It focuses on critical historical developments during Orhan's reign, including the capture of Bursa and Ottoman expansion into Rumelia.[1][2][3]
Plot summary
For the past ten years, the siege of Bursa has been ongoing under Orhan Bey’s leadership, on the orders of Osman Bey. Osman Bey remains the chief of the Kayı tribe, while Malhun Hatun continues as the tribe’s leading lady. Orhan sends Boran Bey as a spy into the city, but the mission fails when Flavius—seeking revenge for his father, the former Byzantine ruler of Bursa—captures him. Osman Bey temporarily removes Orhan from command, appointing Şahinsah Bey in place, which causes unrest among the warriors. while Malhun Hatun asserts her authority as the leading lady of the tribe and defends Orhan's position.Orhan cleverly sabotages Bursa’s supply lines, kills Flavius’s brother Octavius, and rescues Boran with the help of his alps. Malhun Hatun visits the secretive Aksakals and is honored as the Kayı’nin Hatun, declaring she does not favor one son over another, but judges them fairly, confirming that the Beylik rightfully belongs to Orhan Bey. Political tensions rise as the Karasi, Germiyan, and Karaman Beyliks, under the Ilkhanate, march against the Kayı, but Orhan thwarts their plans, secures the antidote for his poisoned father, and destroys Bursa’s underground passages, crippling the city’s defenses. Meanwhile, Flavius, disguised as a merchant, grows close to Fatma Hatun but fails in his attacks due to Orhan and Alaeddin's strategy. Orhan’s alps recapture strategic points, and with the advice of the Aksakals, Osman Bey formally grants Orhan Bey the symbols of leadership of Söğüt, confirming his tribe’s leadership. During the ceremony, Flavius fires a poisoned arrow at Osman, but Fatma Hatun protects him and gets stuck by the arrow instead; shaken, Flavius rescues her in disguise. Malhun Hatun entrusts Nilüfer with the position of First Lady, giving her a ring and explaining that her earlier anger was a test to prepare her for greatness. Nilüfer becomes pregnant again, and though fearful after the loss of her previous children, she is comforted by Orhan. Suitors arrive for Halime and Fatma, and Nilüfer’s sister Dafne, secretly allied with Hector and the Templar Knights, becomes a hidden threat in İznik. The Byzantine Emperor summons Orhan and Nilüfer for negotiations, and during an attack, Orhan and Flavius protect the Emperor, though he is struck by an arrow.
