Torremocha del Pinar is a municipality located in the province of Guadalajara, Castile-La Mancha, Spain. According to the 2004 census (INE), the municipality has a population of 60 inhabitants.
Geography
In the 19th century, reference is made to the "good stretches of woodland populated with holm oak, oak, juniper, savin, and other shrubs" existing within the municipal area.[2] Part of the municipality is included in the Alto Tajo Nature Reserve.[3]
History
By the mid-19th century, Torremocha del Pinar had around 150 inhabitants living in 50 houses. According to Pascual Madoz's geographical-statistical-historical dictionary, it was a town in the province of Guadalajara, with a parish church, a primary school with 14 students, and local administration. The terrain included both flat and hilly areas, with good-quality farmland, forests of oak, holm oak, juniper, and other shrubs, and several springs and a small hermitage. The local economy was based on the production of wheat, barley, rye, oats, and legumes, animal husbandry (sheep and cattle), wood gathering, and hunting. The town had road connections to neighboring villages, postal services via Molina, and a total production value of 1,210,000 reales.[2]
