Sowaka Uchida (内田颯夏, Uchida Sowaka; born 6 June 2006) is a Japanese freestyle wrestler competing in the 55 kg division. She is a bronze medalist at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships.[1]

Career

Uchida began wrestling at a young age and quickly rose through Japan’s age-group levels. She captured back-to-back gold medals at the U17 World Wrestling Championships in 2022 and 2023, and went on to win the 2024 U20 World Wrestling Championships title.[2]

In 2025, she added another age-group world crown by winning gold at the 2025 U20 World Wrestling Championships, solidifying her reputation as one of Japan’s top young freestyle wrestlers.

At the 2025 World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, Uchida competed in the women’s freestyle 55 kg division. In the qualification round she dominated Khulan Batkhuyag of Mongolia 10–0, and in the round of 16 she defeated India’s Nishu 8–4. In the quarterfinals she overcame Oleksandra Khomenets of Ukraine 10–5 to reach the semifinals. Uchida then fell by fall to North Korea’s Oh Kyong-ryong, but rebounded in the bronze medal match with a 10–0 technical superiority victory over Turkey’s Elvira Süleyman Kamaloğlu, earning the bronze medal.[3]
