Son Il-sim (Korean: 손일심; born 13 May 2001) is a North Korean freestyle wrestler competing in the 57 kg division. She is a silver medalist at both the 2025 World Wrestling Championships and the 2025 Asian Wrestling Championships, and the 2024 Military World Wrestling champion.[1][2][3]
Career
At the 2024 World Military Wrestling Championships in Yerevan, Son won the gold medal in the women's freestyle 57 kg category.[4]
In 2025, she earned a silver medal at the Asian Wrestling Championships in Amman, Jordan, in the 57 kg division. Later that year, Son competed at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships in Zagreb, Croatia. After receiving a walkover win in the qualification round, she defeated Ecuador's Luisa Valverde by fall in the round of 16 and overcame Olympic medalist Iryna Kurachkina 12–0 by technical superiority in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, she beat China's Hong Kexin 12–2 to reach the final. In the gold-medal match, Son lost to the United States’ Helen Maroulis 3–2, securing the silver medal.[5][6]
