List of birds by common name

In this list of birds by common name 11,250 extant and recently extinct (since 1500) bird species are recognised.[1] Species marked with a dagger are extinct; a single "†" means the species was described from specimens collected from the wild or held in museums, a double "††" means the species was described from subfossil remains.[2]
