The Kempas Baru railway station (formerly Kempas Bahru railway station) is a Malaysian train station located at and named after the town of Kempas, in the Johor Bahru District of the state Johor.

History

Originally, a predecessor to the current station was built for the Federated Malay States Railway (FMSR) approximately 100 metres (330 ft) away from the current station. The Kempas Lama railway station, as most railway fans named it (literally "Old Kempas" in Malay), was later destroyed by the Japanese in World War II, subsequently undergoing rebuilding after the war before being demolished again a few years later. After years of abandonment, the Malayan Railways (successor of FMSR and predeccesor to KTM) ordered for a new railway station to be built, and "Kempas Baru" (which means "New Kempas" in Malay) was chosen as the new station's name. In February 2024, the Kempas Baru station was relocated to a new building to make way for the Gemas-Johor Bahru electrification and double-tracking project (EDTP).[2]

Since 12 December 2025, Kempas Baru station has been served by several KTM ETS services to Padang Besar, Butterworth, KL Sentral and JB Sentral, replacing the former Ekspres Selatan KTM Intercity service which was terminated on 1 January 2026.[3] The station is still concurrently served by KTM Intercity's long-haul Ekpres Rakyat Timuran service to Tumpat.
