Early life
Linietsky was born in 1976 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He developed an interest in programming and video games from an early age.[2]
Career
In 2007, Linietsky co-founded the Godot Engine project together with Ariel Manzur, aiming to provide a free and open-source alternative to proprietary game engines.[3] He has served as the lead developer since the project's inception, managing the engine's architecture and development roadmap.
Godot supports both 2D and 3D game development, visual scripting, cross-platform deployment, and virtual reality integration.[4]
The engine has been used in commercial projects, including Sega's development of Sonic Colours Ultimate.[5]
In 2020, Godot received $250,000 in funding from Epic Games to support development.[6]
In 2024, Godot introduced path tracing capabilities and further improvements for 3D rendering.[7]
