Bogura-6 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh, As of 16th February, 2026, this seat has been vacated.

This seat was vacated by Tarique Rahman on February 16th, 2026, during the 2026 General Elections, Tarique Rahman had won 2 seats, which include Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6 (This constituency), but he was forced to vacate this seat under Article 71(2)(a) of the Constitution and the Representation of the People Order (RPO), where it is stated that a person elected to multiple seats can only represent one and must relinquish the others.[1]

Regarding this, an election for Bogura-6 will be held at April 9th, 2026[2]

Boundaries

The constituency encompasses the entirety of Bogra Sadar Upazila, including the area under the Bogura City Corporation, integrating the region under a single administrative and electoral boundary.[3][4]

History

The constituency was created for the first general elections in newly independent Bangladesh, held in 1973.

Nurul Islam Omar was elected unopposed in the 2014 general election after opposition parties withdrew their candidacies in a boycott of the election.[11]

Elections in the 2000s

Khaleda Zia stood for three seats in the 2008 general election: Bogra-6, Bogra-7, and Feni-1. After winning all three, she chose to represent Feni-1 and quit the other two, triggering by-elections in them.[12] Muhammad Jamiruddin Sircar of the BNP was elected in an April 2009 by-election.[13]

Elections in the 1990s

Khaleda Zia stood for five seats in the June 1996 general election: Bogra-6, Bogra-7, Feni-1, Lakshmipur-2 and Chittagong-1. After winning all five, she chose to represent Feni-1 and quit the other four, triggering by-elections in them.[17] Md. Zahurul Islam of the BNP was elected in a September 1996 by-election.[18]
