Career

Abdi won the bronze medal in the men's Greco-Roman 72 kg event at the 2022 U23 World Wrestling Championships.[3] In the same year, he also won the bronze medal at the 2022 World Junior Wrestling Championships and became the 2022 Asian Junior champion. Earlier in his age-group career, he won the silver medal at the 2022 Asian Cadet Championships.[4]

At senior level, Abdi placed fifth at the 2024 Asian Wrestling Championships.[5] Later that year, he won the gold medal in the 77 kg category at the 2024 World Military Wrestling Championships in Yerevan. Military sports coverage of the tournament listed Iran's Amir Abdi as the winner of the division.[6]

In 2025, Abdi won the silver medal at the 2025 Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh. Iranian reports stated that he advanced to the final before losing to Kyrgyzstan's Akzhol Makhmudov, a world champion and Olympic silver medalist, in the gold-medal bout.[7] He later competed at the 2025 World Wrestling Championships, where he finished 17th in his weight class.[8]
