Caused by the death on 1 December 1931 of Alderman A. H. Collins (Liberal, elected as an alderman by the council on 12 August 1931).[3][4]

In his place, Councillor James Higginbottom (Independent, Crescent, elected 1 November 1920)[5] was elected as an alderman by the council on 6 January 1932.[6]
