The Republican Convention renominated Ramsey without opposition.

Due to the ongoing civil war, the Democrats found themselves unpopular in the state. They chose to call their convention the "No Party" Convention. It was still generally referred to as the Democratic State Convention.[2] The Convention took place on September 12, 1861. Hamlin was nominated by the convention for Governor after a vote of acclamation.[3]
