Location

Świdnica Miasto is a railway station in Świdnica, in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship of south-western Poland. The station is located at Dworcowa 2 and, according to the Passenger Portal of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe, is accessible to persons with reduced mobility.[1] It lies on railway line 137 and is also connected with railway line 285 via railway line 771 between Świdnica Przedmieście and Świdnica Miasto.[3][4]

The present station building was erected in the years 1903–1905, with the opening of the line towards Jedlina-Zdrój in 1904.[2][5]

History

Rail transport reached Świdnica in 1844, when the first railway connection to the town was opened.[2][6] The present Świdnica Miasto station, however, dates from the early 20th century. According to the city's development strategy, today's station building was constructed in 1903–1905 and was brought into use together with the railway line to Jedlina-Zdrój in 1904.[2]

Świdnica Miasto became an important local station on the town's railway network, linking routes towards Jaworzyna Śląska and Legnica as well as connections towards the Sudetes. In the early 21st century the historic station building underwent a major renovation carried out by the municipality after the property had been taken over from PKP. Local reporting stated that the refurbishment began in 2010 and that the rebuilt station was reopened to passengers on 15 December 2013.[7][8]

Rail access from Wrocław via Sobótka was restored in December 2021 as part of the revitalisation of railway line 285 and line 771. PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe stated that the project covered the Wrocław Główny–Świdnica Przedmieście section together with the connecting line from Świdnica Przedmieście to Świdnica Miasto.[9][10]

Station building

Świdnica Miasto station stands within the Świdnica interchange area and serves both railway and urban transport functions.[11][1] Municipal documentation describes the railway station complex at Dworcowa 2–4–6–8 as a city-owned facility used for passenger service.[12]

Local reporting on the 2010–2013 renovation described the building as an Art Nouveau station restored for contemporary passenger use.[8]

Services

Świdnica Miasto is served by regional trains of Koleje Dolnośląskie.[13]

Current regional services from the station include trains towards Wrocław Główny, Legnica, Jaworzyna Śląska, Trzebnica, Bielawa Zachodnia, Jedlina-Zdrój, Głuszyca, Kłodzko Miasto, Kłodzko Główne, Kamieniec Ząbkowicki, Kudowa-Zdrój and Jawor.[13]
