Zhang Linghe (Chinese: 张凌赫; pinyin: Zhāng Línghè; born 30 December 1997), is a Chinese actor.[1] He is known for his roles in Love Between Fairy and Devil (2022) My Journey to You (2023), Story of Kunning Palace (2023), The Princess Royal (2024), The Best Thing (2025), and Pursuit of Jade (2026).

Early life

Zhang Linghe was born Zhang Jiawei on 30 December 1997 in Wuxi, Jiangsu, China.

Zhang studied at Jiangsu Tianyi High School.[2] In 2016, he was admitted to Nanjing Normal University where he majored in electrical engineering. During his time there, he joined the Aerospace Society because of his interest in physics.[3] After meeting an agent, he became interested in acting.

Career

In 2020, he made his television debut in the costume romance drama Maiden Holmes and also starred in the youth romance drama Sparkle Love. The following year, he appeared in the urban romance drama Love Crossed and the youth school drama Flourish in Time.

In 2022, he portrayed Chang Heng, the god of war in the costume fairy tale drama Love Between Fairy and Devil, which gained him recognition.[4]

In 2023, he achieved breakout success after starring as Gong Ziyu in the historical drama My Journey To You and Xie Wei in costume romance drama Story of Kunning Palace.[5]

In 2025, Zhang gained popularity internationally after starring as He Suye, a traditional Chinese medicine doctor in modern romance drama The Best Thing.[6] In July 2025, Zhang starred as Jiang Qiaoxi in youth romance drama Our Generation.[7]

Controversy over remarks about Southeast Asia

In March 2026, Zhang faced criticism for comments made during an appearance on the variety show Hello Saturday, where he was promoting the television drama Pursuit of Jade. During a segment in which he and co-star Tian Xiwei drew portraits of each other, Zhang joked that Tian’s drawing of him looked as if he had been “born in Southeast Asia,” and also compared the drawing to comedian Yang Di.[8][9] Clips of the segment circulated online and drew criticism, particularly from Southeast Asian viewers, who said the remark was interpreted as invoking negative stereotypes about appearance; the incident was subsequently reported by several Vietnamese media outlets. It gained traction on social media in countries including Vietnam and Thailand, with some users calling for a boycott. Following the backlash, the production team of Hello Saturday removed the segment containing the remark from later versions of the episode, although the program did not publicly state the reason for the edit. Zhang later issued an apology on Instagram in both Chinese and English, posting the statement in the comment section of a promotional post rather than as a separate post; this format led some online commentators to question its sincerity. He stated that he did not intend to offend anyone, adding that he appreciated the support he had received from fans in Southeast Asia. The public reaction to the apology was mixed.[8][10]

Endorsements

Since 2023, Zhang has been the skincare ambassador for French beauty brand Lancôme.[11]

In April 2024, Zhang was promoted to brand ambassador for Swiss luxury watch and jewellery brand Chopard.[12][13] In May 2024, he was named house ambassador for French luxury shoe brand Roger Vivier.[14]

In July 2024, Zhang was named brand ambassador for Italian luxury fashion house Gucci.[15] In February 2025, it was announced Zhang would also be representing Gucci Beauty as brand ambassador.[16]

In June 2025, global denim brand Lee appointed Zhang as their first-ever brand ambassador for the Asia-Pacific region.[17]

In January 2026, Zhang was announced brand ambassador for Italian luxury jewellery house Bulgari.[18]

Zhang is the global brand ambassador for herbal tea brand Wang Laoji,[19] and Chinese cosmetics brand Carslan. He is also the China brand spokesperson for Lenovo,[20] Motorola, CeraVe,[21], Puma,[22] Belle,[23] Inoherb,[24] and Dreame[25].
