Siinamota (椎名もた), otherwise known as Mizoguchi Ryo (溝口遼; from Ishikawa, 9 March 1995 – 23 July 2015), was a Japanese keyboardist, lyricist, and composer.[1][2] He is regarded as one of the most influential Vocaloid producers of all time and is most well known for "Young Girl A". He tends to use soft rock, piano, and electronic rhythms.[1]
Biography
His career of creating Vocaloid started from as early as 14 years of age, publishing his first album Yume no Manimani.
Among his multiple albums released, Ikiru[a] has gained the most overall attention. Meaning "to live", it was released on 4 March 2015, shortly before his death. His most notable work, "Young Girl A", has racked up 190 million views on YouTube, reaching the centurial mark on 24 July 2024, with Spotify reaching this 4 months earlier, becoming the most viewed Vocaloid song on YouTube.[3]
On 23 July, he died at the age of 20 years old. It was never publicly disclosed as to the cause, but due to the nature of his works and the meaning of his final song leads to most theories of connections to depression and suicide from this.[1][4][5]
His final work, Please Give Me a Red Pen, was publicly released the same day of his death.[6] The title refers to the fact that in some Asian cultures, writing a name in red pen is seen as bad luck, due to deceased names being written in so.[7]
Four years after his death (2019), his close friends released an album called Therefor, which he appears in.
"Young Girl A" gained significant success in the 2020s, following its resurgence on short-form video platforms such as TikTok and YouTube Shorts.
