Yahaya Yakubu is a Nigerian footballer.

Early life

Yakubu was born in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, Nigeria.

Youth career

Yakubu began his football development at Klassisch Football Academy, a Lagos-based Nigerian football academy focused on grassroots player development and pathways to European clubs. The academy, founded in 2021, has produced several players who later moved to clubs across Europe.

During his time at the academy, Yakubu developed as a defensive midfielder and attracted the attention of European scouts through the academy's international scouting networks.[1][2]

Club Career

Real Oviedo

In 2025, Yakubu signed for Spanish club Real Oviedo on a multi-year deal after progressing through youth football in Nigeria. He initially joined the club’s youth system and was integrated into their development structure.[3][1][4][5][2]

Real Oviedo Vetusta

After progressing through the youth ranks, Yakubu began playing for Real Oviedo Vetusta, the reserve team of Real Oviedo, which competes in the Segunda Federación, the fourth tier of Spanish football.

Playing style

Yakubu primarily plays as a defensive midfielder, known for his work rate and ability to break up opposition attacks.[3]
