Wilkowiec (German: Wolfskuppe) is a mountain in the Włodzickie Hills, in the Nowa Ruda Depression in the Central Sudetes of south-western Poland. It rises to 598 metres (1,962 ft) above sea level.[1][2]

Geography

Wilkowiec lies in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in the Nowa Ruda area of Kłodzko County. The summit at 50°32′08″N 16°32′20″E stands on the north-eastern side of the Nowa Ruda basin, within the Sudetic uplands traditionally grouped as the Włodzickie Hills.[1][2]

The Włodzickie Hills form a small mountain group in the Central Sudetes. In the guide published by the Polish Geological Institute, the range is described as extending for roughly 20 km in the basin of the Włodzica and its tributaries, between neighbouring Sudetic units such as the Owl Mountains and the Table Mountains.[2] Within this setting, Wilkowiec forms one of the named summits overlooking the eastern part of Nowa Ruda and the Słupiec area.[3]

Municipal planning documents for Nowa Ruda describe the town as lying between the Owl Mountains and the Włodzickie Hills, with a landscape shaped by surrounding elevations and stream valleys. They also identify tourism and recreational routes as an important part of the local use of the hills around the town.[4]

Tourism

Wilkowiec lies in an area used for local tourism and outdoor recreation. The official tourism pages of the town of Nowa Ruda describe the surrounding hills as part of a network of marked trails and local routes, including the Szlak Dwie Wieże ("Two Towers Trail"), which links two major viewpoints above the town.[5][4]

Official municipal materials also place Wilkowiec among the named hills shown on the tourist map of Nowa Ruda, reflecting its role as one of the local topographic landmarks of the district.[3]
