Wesoła (German: Hermannsberg) is a mountain in the Włodzickie Hills (Wzgórza Włodzickie), part of the Central Sudetes in south-western Poland. The summit reaches 499 metres (1,637 ft) above sea level.[1]

Geography

Wesoła lies in Lower Silesian Voivodeship, in Kłodzko County near the town of Nowa Ruda. The summit at 50°31′23″N 16°31′43″E forms part of the chain of rounded elevations surrounding the Nowa Ruda basin.[1]

The Włodzickie Hills are a small mountain group within the Central Sudetes. According to publications of the Polish Geological Institute, the hills extend for about 20 km in the basin of the Włodzica River and are situated between neighbouring Sudetic ranges such as the Owl Mountains and the Table Mountains.[2]

Wesoła rises on the eastern side of Nowa Ruda above the valley of the Włodzica River and the surrounding settlements. Together with nearby elevations it forms part of the hilly landscape that frames the town from the east and north.[3]

Tourism

The hills around Nowa Ruda are used for local hiking and outdoor recreation. Municipal tourism materials describe the surrounding elevations as part of a network of marked and unmarked routes leading to viewpoints above the town and through the forests of the Włodzickie Hills.[3]

Paths and forest tracks on the slopes of Wesoła connect the hill with other parts of the Nowa Ruda uplands and with neighbouring hills of the range.[3]

Name

The present Polish name Wesoła was standardized after the Second World War. Before 1945 the mountain was known by the German name Hermannsberg.[4]
