Wapniarka is a mountain in south-western Poland, in the Sudetes. It rises to 532 metres (1,745 ft) above sea level and is the highest elevation of Kłodzko Valley[1][2]

Geography

Wapniarka lies near the village of Żelazno in Kłodzko County (Lower Silesian Voivodeship).[2] In the physical geography of the municipality, it is listed among the Krowiarki peaks close to the boundary of the Bystrzyca Kłodzka commune.[1]

Geology and environment

The mountain is partly built of limestone and includes a former limestone quarry on its eastern slope.[2] The disused Wapniarka quarry has been noted in regional environmental studies as a distinctive habitat for terrestrial molluscs, including the land snail Charpentieria ornata.[3]

Tourism

A wooden viewing tower stands on Wapniarka. According to the regional trail portal of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society (PTTK), a tower was first erected in 1889, rebuilt in 1925 after a lightning strike, and a later wooden tower was constructed in the 2006–2011 period.[2] The summit area is reachable by marked hiking routes shown on the PTTK Lower Silesian trail network.[2]
