Gameplay
Voices of the Void is a first-person horror[4] simulation video game.[1] The player controls a scientist sent to an isolated Swiss observatory administering machinery that detects and analyses radio signals from space. Each day, the player is given tasks to complete, which involves operating the physical buttons of the observatory's computer terminals. Physical drives are used to store the data of a signal and transfer it between terminals.[2][3]
While operating the observatory, the player must manage their hunger and sleep.[1] Machinery can also break, reducing the observatory's processing power and possibly requiring the player to perform physical repairs. When the player completes tasks, they are given points that serve as currency for buying items like food, machinery upgrades, or decoration.[2]
In the process, the player may experience unusual events, including deadly weather events and encounters with extraterrestrial life and supernatural anomalies that can harm the player. The game contains references to demonology and paranormal phenomenon, referencing demons such as Stolas and Furfur, and contains an old area of a cult compound. The game features a mechanic in which certain locations or entity attacks cause a game crash in a scripted sequence. Other entities include wisps much like will-o'-the-wisps and ghost deer that attack the player. Voices of the Void includes over 150 events, with some containing references to other games, media, or paranormal phenomenon. Real life references, multiple events reference real life events as one references Kelly–Hopkinsville encounter showing the sketch of the opposed alien on a cardboard standee the player can take or destroy as well a reference to the McEwen Heart Incident where an Incident with a salt heart is referenced in the game as well.
