Valias is a village in Tirana County, Albania.[1] It is part of the municipality Kamëz.[2]
Background
Valias is classified as a rural village, though now heavily urbanized, following a merger with the expanding urban area of Kamëz.[3] Over the past few decades, it has transitioned from an agricultural settlement to a peri-urban residential zone.
Valias was historically known as an important coal-mining center, beginning operations around 1978. Millions of tons of coal were produced for energy use until the early 1990s, when it was shut down after the collapse of communism.[3]
Location
Valias is located in central Albania, within the Kamëz Municipality of Tirana County. It lies approximately 9-12 km northwest of Tirana, near key settlements such as Kamëz, Laknas, and Bathore.[3] Geographically, Valias sits in a lowland plain at an elevation of about 40-50 meters above sea level.[3]
