Utopian Scholastic

Utopian scholastic is a kitsch[1] aesthetic prevalent from the late 1980s to the mid-2000s that is based on the visual identity and presentation of edutainment media such as children's books (mainly the Eyewitness books), early digital encyclopedias, documentaries, and scientific communication programs open educational resources (OER).

This aesthetic often uses animals, historical imagery, planets and other celestial objects, and other things that are associated with education.

In the mid-2020s, this niche style of cultural study has been revisited as a response to anti-intellectualism through the understanding of the role of universal exhibitions' total artwork and cabinets of curiosities' encyclopedic knowledge in the development of steampunk, cyberpunk, vaporwave, and solarpunk nostalgia retrowave.[2]
