Urmas Lattikas
Urmas Lattikas (born 17 August 1960 in Tapa) is an Estonian composer and jazz pianist.[1]
In 1986, he graduated from the Tallinn State Conservatory with a degree in composition. He completed his postgraduate studies in jazz composition and piano at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating in 1990. After returning to Estonia, Lattikas founded his own jazz quintet, with which he participated in the Jazzkaar 1991 festival, and in 1992 released the album Freedom to Love Freedom to Lose.
He has worked as an arranger in the fields of pop, jazz, and classical music. In 1994, he conducted the orchestra for the Estonian entry at the Eurovision Song Contest.[1] He has also composed film scores (including Nõid, 1988) as well as works for choir, orchestra, and chamber ensembles. Under his own name, he has released several albums.[1]
Since 1982, he has been a leading figure of the jazz quintet Urmas Lattikas Ensemble.[1]
Since 2000, he has been a member of the Estonian Composers' Union.[1]
