Fuziah bint Haroun Al Rashid (born 1 September 1953), also known as Uji Rashid, is a Malaysian singer and actress.[1] She is recognized as one of the most famous Malaysian female singers of the 1970s. Her duo title "Asmara Bergelora" with Hail Amir is the best selling song of 1977.[2] Her name also become an alternative name for the kandaman fish that lives in Borneo Island.[3]
Early life
Uji Rashid was born to a Bruneian-Malay family. She was educated in Bandar Seri Begawan. She moved to Kuala Lumpur in the late 1960s, joining the sports and debate club in her high school years.
Together with a friend, she tried out a singing audition and the two achieved third place. Afterwards, Ahmad Nawab encouraged her to pursue a career in entertainment.
Career
Jamil Sulong, a renowned Malaysian filmmaker and artist from Parit Sulong saw her potential. She was cast as the main heroine in the widely acclaimed film "Permintaan Terakhir" (1975) with Nozie Nani, Datuk Sani Abdullah and Yusof Haslam (father of Syafiq Yusof).[4] She also gained wide acclaim with "Asmara Bergelora," a duet together with Hail Amir. This was the best selling song of 1977 in Malaysia.[5]
Her other famous roles included: Jiwa Remaja (1975), Menanti Hari Esok (1977) and Dendang Perantau (1979).

Personal life
Uji Rashid married Jamaluddin Jamil Harahap, a businessman from Batak region, Indonesia in 1978. Together they had two children, Cico Harahap and Yazmeen. Uji Rashid later retired in 2016 due to her son's partial paralysis from septic shock.[6]
