"Two of a Kind" is a song by English rock band Beady Eye, released in February 2011 as the B-side to "The Roller", the first commercial single from the band's debut album Different Gear, Still Speeding.[1][2]
Background and release
The song was issued as the second track on The Roller single.[3] When Beady Eye announced the single in January 2011, contemporary press coverage confirmed that "Two of a Kind" would appear as a "brand new" B-side and described it as the third Beady Eye track made available to fans after "Bring the Light" and "Four Letter Word".[4][5]
Reception
Critical commentary on "Two of a Kind" was limited and mostly came in live reviews. Reviewing Beady Eye's performance at the Royal Albert Hall in March 2011, Live4ever wrote that the song was "delivered with venom" and praised its "irresistibly catchy thumping beat", arguing that its status as a B-side reflected the strength of the band's material at the time.[6] A less enthusiastic assessment came later that year from The Boston Globe, which described "Two of a Kind" as one of "a couple of unremarkable songs" in Beady Eye's live set.[7]
Chart performance
Although issued as a B-side, "Two of a Kind" charted separately in the United Kingdom. It reached number 15 on the UK Independent Singles Chart and number 2 on the UK Indie Breakers Chart.[8] It also reached number 117 on the UK Singles Chart.[9]
