The Town and Country Planning Act 1932 (22 & 23 Geo. 5. c. 48) was an act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom that repealed and re-enacted with amendments the enactments relating to town planning in England and Wales, extending planning controls to rural as well as urban land.[1]

The Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1932 (22 & 23 Geo. 5. c. 49) made corresponding provisions for Scotland.

Section 54(1) of the act repealed 3 enactments, listed in the fifth schedule to the act.[2]

Subsequent developments

The whole act was repealed by section 113(2) of, and part II of the ninth schedule to, the Town and Country Planning Act 1947 (10 & 11 Geo. 6. c. 51), which came into operation on 1 July 1948.[3]

  2. ^ Section 58(2) provides that the act shall not extend to Northern Ireland. Under section 57, the act applied to Scotland subject to the adaptations in the Sixth Schedule, but a certified copy was prepared and deposited as a separate Act (the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1932), whereupon this Act ceased to apply to Scotland.
