The Price Is Right

The Price Is Right Tonight is a Canadian television game show and primetime spin-off of The Price Is Right.[1] Premiering on March 10, 2026,[2] the series adapts the classic pricing-game format for an evening audience while introducing new themes, larger prize packages, celebrity appearances, and special event episodes. Contestants are selected from the studio audience and compete in a variety of pricing games to determine the prices of products and prizes to win cash, vacations, automobiles, and other rewards.

The series retains many elements associated with the original franchise, including the iconic catchphrase "Come on down!"; the use of Contestants' Row, pricing games, the Showcase Showdown, and the Showcase. However, The Price Is Right Tonight features an expanded entertainment format designed specifically for nighttime television, often incorporating musical performances, themed episodes, audience participation segments, and exclusive grand prizes not typically offered during daytime broadcasts.

Episodes are generally centred around special themes, such as holiday celebrations, community recognition nights, celebrity charity events, and seasonal showcases. The program has become known for its energetic atmosphere and emphasis on creating a large-scale event experience for both contestants and viewers at home.

The gameplay consists of four major stages: Contestants' Row, where audience members bid on prizes to earn a chance to play pricing games; a series of pricing games in which contestants attempt to win additional prizes by correctly identifying retail values; the Showcase Showdown, where contestants spin the Big Wheel for an opportunity to advance; and the Showcase, in which finalists bid on elaborate prize packages for a chance to win their ultimate collection of prizes.

Like its daytime counterpart, the show's central premise revolves around contestants using their knowledge of retail pricing to succeed. Over time, The Price Is Right Tonight has established itself as a modern extension of the long-running franchise, bringing the excitement of the original format to a primetime audience while preserving many of the traditions that have defined The Price Is Right for decades.

A second season is slated to air in fall 2026.[3]

Gameplay

The format of The Price Is Right Tonight follows the traditional structure established by The Price Is Right, while incorporating several modifications designed for a primetime audience.

At the beginning of each episode, contestants are selected from the studio audience and invited to "come on down" to participate in Contestants' Row. Four contestants bid on the retail price of an item without exceeding its actual value. The contestant whose bid is closest to the correct price advances to play a pricing game.

Throughout the episode, contestants participate in a series of pricing games involving automobiles, cash prizes, vacations, electronics, and luxury experiences. Many of the classic pricing games from the original series are featured alongside original games created specifically for the nighttime edition. Unlike the daytime version, only four pricing games are played per episode.

Following the pricing games, contestants compete in the Showcase Showdown, in which they spin the show's iconic wheel in an attempt to advance to the final round. Contestants who land on designated amounts may receive bonus prizes or additional opportunities to win cash. Unlike the daytime version (where two Showcase Showdowns are played per episode), only one Showdown is played per episode due to the smaller number of contestants.

The two Showcase Showdown winners proceed to the Showcase, where they bid on elaborate prize packages. The contestant whose bid is closest to the actual retail price of their showcase without going over wins the showcase. If a contestant's bid falls within a predetermined amount of the actual retail price, they may win both showcases in what is commonly referred to as a "Double Showcase Win."

History

The Price Is Right Tonight was developed as a primetime adaptation of the long-running game show The Price Is Right. The series was conceived to provide viewers with a larger-scale version of the traditional daytime format, featuring enhanced production values and expanded prize offerings.

The program premiered in 2026 and quickly established itself as a companion series to the daytime edition. Producers sought to preserve the core elements that had contributed to the franchise's success while introducing new features intended to appeal to family audiences during evening viewing hours.

From its inception, the series emphasized themed episodes, community involvement, and special events. Holiday celebrations, charitable partnerships, and celebrity guest appearances became recurring aspects of the program's identity.

Hosts and announcers

Hosts

The host serves as the primary presenter of The Price Is Right Tonight, guiding contestants through pricing games, interacting with audience members, and overseeing the Showcase Showdown and Showcase rounds.

The role requires a combination of improvisational ability, enthusiasm, and familiarity with the mechanics of the pricing games. The host frequently engages with contestants and audience members, contributing to the show's energetic atmosphere.

Announcers

The announcer introduces contestants, describes prizes, and delivers the program's signature catchphrase, "Come on down!"

In addition to announcing contestants and prizes, the announcer often participates in comedic segments and promotional elements throughout each episode. The role remains one of the most recognizable positions associated with the franchise.

Production

The Price Is Right Tonight is produced using a multi-camera studio format before a live audience. Episodes are typically recorded in advance of their scheduled broadcast dates.

The series features a production design distinct from its daytime counterpart, including expanded lighting effects, updated graphics, and enhanced musical arrangements intended to create a large-scale entertainment experience suitable for primetime television.

Prize packages featured on the show include automobiles, luxury vacations, home furnishings, cash awards, and exclusive experiences. Certain episodes may incorporate sponsorship partnerships that contribute to the prizes offered.

The program employs a team of producers, directors, contestant coordinators, models, technical staff, and audience coordinators to facilitate the production process. Audience members undergo an interview process before tapings to determine contestant eligibility.

Broadcast history

The Price Is Right Tonight premiered in 2026 as a regularly scheduled evening program. The series was broadcast during primetime hours and was designed to complement the franchise's existing daytime presence.

Special editions of the program have included holiday-themed broadcasts, season premieres, charity events, and anniversary celebrations. Some episodes have also featured guest celebrities competing alongside audience contestants in support of charitable organizations.

The show's scheduling has occasionally varied to accommodate major televised events and seasonal programming initiatives. Despite these changes, the program has maintained a consistent presence within the network's entertainment lineup.

Reception

The Price Is Right Tonight has generally received positive reception from viewers and critics, particularly for its ability to modernize elements of the original format while preserving its traditional appeal.

Reviewers have praised the program's high-energy presentation, expanded prize offerings, and emphasis on audience participation. The series has also been recognized for introducing a new generation of viewers to the Price Is Right franchise.

Fans of the original daytime program have highlighted the continuation of classic pricing games and familiar catchphrases as strengths of the nighttime adaptation. Meanwhile, the incorporation of themed episodes and larger-scale productions has distinguished the series from earlier versions of the franchise.

The show's enduring popularity has been attributed to the universal appeal of its pricing-based gameplay and its celebration of everyday contestants achieving extraordinary rewards.
