The Lost Boys: A New Musical is an upcoming 2026 musical with music and lyrics by American indie pop/rock band[1] the Rescues and a book by David Hornsby and Chris Hoch. It is based on the 1987 comedy horror cult classic film The Lost Boys.
The show's Broadway premiere is directed by Michael Arden, opening at the Palace Theatre in April 2026.[2]
Development
Producers Patrick Wilson, James Carpinello, and Marcus Chait had issues securing the stage rights for The Lost Boys from Warner Bros. until the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020: "We had a lot of time to Zoom, a lot of time to meet with masks and talk about how we bring vampires to life."[3] Director Michael Arden suggested The Rescues as the musical's lyricists and composers, and the musical's producing team reached out to the band at a concert in 2021.[4] An industry-only presentation of The Lost Boys was held on March 14, 2025.[5]
On October 14, 2025, single "Have to Have You" featuring Slash was released along with a music video to promote the musical.[3] A subsequent EP—The Santa Carla Sessions—was released on Halloween.[6]
Premise
In the 1980s, a mother and her two teenage sons moves to the fictional town of Santa Carla, California. While Lucy tries to piece her family’s life back together, her sons, Michael and Sam, become entangled with a group of teenage vampires disguised as a local rock band and a sibling duo of vampire hunters.[2]
