Sumi Somaskanda

Sumi Somaskanda is an American journalist. She joined the BBC as chief presenter on the BBC's television news channel, BBC News, in March 2023,[1][2] enabling increased coverage of US affairs including elections.[3][4][5] Somaskanda was previously a senior presenter and correspondent for DW News[6] and has written for The New Statesman,[7] Foreign Policy[8] and Al Jazeera.[9]

Somaskanda came to additional prominence leading BBC News coverage of the 2026 Israeli–United States strikes on Iran.
