Stephanie Krisper (born 24 May 1980 in Vienna[1]) is an Austrian lawyer and politician of the NEOS party[2] who was a member of the Austrian National Council between 2017 and 2025. Before joining the National Council (Nationalrat) Krisper had worked at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Human Rights.[3] From November 2017 to October 2025, she was a Member of the Austrian National Council.[4][5]

Education and Early Career

Stephanie Krisper attended the High School in Vienna.[6] In September 1998, she began studying law at the Faculty of Law at the University of Vienna. She completed her studies in March 2003, graduating with the degree of Magistra iuris (Mag. iur.).[6] From 2003 to 2004, Stephanie Krisper completed a postgraduate Master’s program at the European Centre for Human Rights and Democratization in Venice, earning a European Master’s Degree in Human Rights and Democratization (E.MA).[7] From 2007 to 2012, Krisper pursued doctoral studies in law at the University of Vienna, where she was awarded a Doctor of Law degree (Dr. iur.) with a dissertation entitled “The European Union’s Safe Country Concepts versus the Principle of Non-Refoulement.”[6]

From January 2009 until her swearing-in as a Member of the National Council in November 2017, Stephanie Krisper most recently worked as a human rights expert with a focus on torture prevention at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights in Vienna.[7]

Career

In the 2017 legislative elections, Krisper gained a seat in the National Council.

In addition to her committee assignments, Krisper has been a member of the Austrian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe since 2020. In this capacity, she has served on the Committee on the Honoring of Obligations and Commitments by Member States of the Council of Europe (Monitoring Committee) (since 2022); the Committee on the Election of Judges to the European Court of Human Rights (since 2020); the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons (since 2020); and the Sub-Committee on Migrant Smuggling and Trafficking in Human Beings (since 2020).[8] On behalf of the Assembly, she authored a 2022 report on safe third countries for asylum seekers.[9]

In October 2025 Krisper resigned her mandate claiming that NEOS was lacking the courage for an ideology countering the FPÖ[10] and planning to continue her work for human rights and against corruption independently.[10][11] Krisper had served close to eight years as MP; her resignation coincided with NEOS joining the 2025 triple coalition government.[10]
