Smrk is a mountain in the Golden Mountains in the Olomouc Region of the Czech Republic. At 1,127 metres (3,698 ft) above sea level, it the highest peak of the Golden Mountains.

Geography

Smrk lies in the territory of Lipová-lázně in northern part of the Olomouc Region within the main ridge area of the Golden Mountains, close to the Czech–Polish border.[1]

Geology and geomorphology

The Golden Mountains form part of the northeastern margin of the Bohemian Massif and are commonly described as block mountains; Smrk is frequently used as a reference peak in scientific descriptions of the region.[2][3]

Nature conservation

Large parts of the Golden Mountains ridge area are included in the Czech Natura 2000 network. Smrk falls within (or adjacent to) the Natura 2000 site Rychlebské hory – Sokolský hřbet (code CZ0714086) administered via the Information System of Nature Conservation (ISOP) operated by the Czech Nature Conservation Agency (AOPK ČR).[4]

Recreation

Smrk is passed by long-distance ridge routes promoted by the Olomouc Region as part of cross-border hiking itineraries in the Sudetes foothills and ranges near Poland.[5]
