Slydris is a 2012 puzzle game developed and published by the American indie studio Radiangames. It was released in July 2012 for iOS, followed by a port for Android in June 2013. The game was met with a positive reception.[1]
History
Slydris was developed by Radiangames founded by Luke Schneider, a former designer at Volition.[2] Slydris was initially released for iOS to utilize iPad larger screen for the block-sliding mechanics on July 26, 2012.[3] Following high demands for the game, an update to make it compatible with iPhone was released universally in December 2012, followed by a port for Android on June 7, 2013.[4]
Gameplay
In Slydris, the player drags blocks left or right into an entire line of the same color. Once finished, the line disappear, and the player earn points. Clearing a row of a single colour creates a “colour buster” and extra bonuses are awarded.[2] Unlike Tetris where blocks fall automatically, gravity pulls blocks down to fill gap once player let go.[5] There are special blocks including Shatter, Locked and Magnet which complicate game plan. Players can customize backgrounds to dark or light and synchronized music tracks.[2]
The game has different modes including Infinite Mode where new blocks appear after making a move and the game ends if the stack hits the top.[4] Zen Mode does not award score and does not have game-over rules allowing endless play. In the Survival Mode, new blocks drop at interval of 10 seconds forcing players to plan and act quickly.
Reception
On Metacritic, the game has a "generally favorable" score of 86% based on eight critics.[6]
Multiple critics praised the game.[7][8][9][10][1][11]
