Thrash is an upcoming American survival horror film written and directed by Tommy Wirkola. It stars Phoebe Dynevor, Whitney Peak, Alyla Browne, and Djimon Hounsou.

Premise

In the midst of a raging hurricane, a coastal community fights for survival as they are besieged not only by the destructive forces of nature but also by the relentless threat of sharks. Struggling against the pounding rain, debris-strewn streets, and enveloping darkness, they must band together to fend off these deadly predators if they have any hope of making it through the storm alive.

  • Phoebe Dynevor as Lisa Fields: A pregnant woman trapped in a car in the middle of a hurricane triying to get away from the raging waves and the sharks they bring[1]
  • Whitney Peak as Dakota Edwards: Dale's agoraphobic niece, who at first, skeptical, dismisses the idea of a Category 5 hurricane approaching her town, but soon realizes the gravity of the situation[2]
  • Djimon Hounsou as Dale Edwards: A marine researcher trying to help people trapped on the town as they had been cut off from any rescue attempts[2]
  • Alyla Browne as Dee Olsen: Sister of a trio of foster siblings trying to survive while trapped in their own home as sharks invade and terrorize them[3]

Production

In May 2024, Columbia Pictures was announced to be developing a survival thriller film titled Beneath the Storm with Tommy Wirkola writing and directing, and Phoebe Dynevor cast in the lead role.[4] That August, principal photography began in Australia, with Whitney Peak and Djimon Hounsou joining the cast.[5] Matthew Weston served as the cinematographer.[6]

In March 2025, the film was renamed to Shiver.[7] In January 2026, the film was yet-again untitled, and the rights to the film were transferred to Netflix.[8]

Release

Thrash is scheduled to be released on April 10, 2026, on Netflix.[9][10] It was previously set to be theatrically released in the United States on August 1, 2025, and on July 3, 2026, by Sony Pictures Releasing.[5][7]

On March of 2026 it was announced through an official trailer the now official releasing date of April 10 of 2026[11]
