Shankar Vihar metro station
Shankar Vihar is an elevated metro station on the Magenta Line of Delhi Metro.[1][2] A part of the system's Phase-III, it was opened to the public on 29 May 2018.[3] It is the only station in the Delhi Metro network where free movement of civilians is restricted (since it falls within the military zone of Delhi Cantonment).[4][5]

Special provision for defence area
As the station lies completely inside an army unit, the commuters are required to carry defence ID cards to take exit from the station.[6]

The stations on this corridor are - Janakpuri West, Dabri Mor, Dashrathpuri, Palam, Sadar Bazar, Terminal 1 – IGI Airport, Shankar Vihar, Vasant Vihar, Munirka, RK Puram, Hauz Khas, IIT, Panchsheel Park, Chirag Delhi, GK Enclave, Nehru Enclave. Out of the 25.6 kilometre long section, 23 kilometres are underground and the rest is elevated. Only two stations – Sadar Bazar and Shankar Vihar are elevated and the remaining stations are all underground.
