Scalable Capital is a German startup founded in 2014 in Munich that offers a digital investment platform. As a Fintech, the company provides individuals with access to trading in stocks, ETFs, cryptocurrencies, and derivatives, as well as a robo-advisor until 2024.

As of 2025, the platform manages over €30 billion for more than one million clients.[1]

History

Scalable Capital was founded in Munich in December 2014 by former Goldman Sachs employees Erik Podzuweit[2] and Florian Prucker, as well as Adam French and Stefan Mittnik.[3][4] The company was initially launched in 2016 as a pure robo-advisor for automated wealth management. A subsidiary was established in London as early as 2016[5] (although the UK service was discontinued in 2021).[6]

In 2018, assets under management reached one billion euros.[7]

Through a partnership with ING Germany starting in 2017, the company was able to quickly gain market share.[8] In 2020, the company launched its own online brokerage platform, which expanded its business model to include active securities trading.

In 2021, the company achieved unicorn status with a valuation of over one billion US dollar.[9] That same year also saw the acquisition of the online portal justETF.[10] Since then, Scalable Capital has also expanded internationally and is now active not only in Germany but also in markets such as Austria, France, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands.

In collaboration with the Hanover Stock Exchange, Scalable Capital launched the electronic trading platform EIX (European Investor Exchange) in December 2024.[11]

In early 2025, a partnership with BlackRock was announced to give Scalable Capital retail investors access to BlackRock’s private equity funds.[12][13]

In mid-2025, the company secured another round of funding worth 155 million euros, valuing the company at approximately 1.5 billion euros. Investors included the Chinese technology company Tencent.[14]

At the end of 2025, the company received a full banking license from the ECB and has since been supervised by the BaFin and the Bundesbank. As a result, Scalable now offers deposit services, loans, and other banking services directly and is no longer reliant on partner banks such as Baader Bank.[15]
