Saint Joseph's High School, Khulna is a high school located on Ahsan Ahmad Road in Khulna, Bangladesh.

History

In 1936, The Reverend Father E. Paoletti, S.C., D.D., following the advice of the Bishop of Krishnanagar, decided to establish a Bengali-medium school in the heart of Khulna city on Ahsan Ahmad Road. Paoletti himself took charge as the headmaster on December 18, 1939, and with 7 teachers and 40 students, the school officially began its journey on January 6, 1940. It was named 'St. Joseph's School' after Saint Joseph. In the first year, classes from Class 1 to Class 6 were introduced. In 1941, Class 7 was introduced. In 1942, Class 8 was introduced. In 1944, Class 10 was introduced. In 1943, this school received recognition from the University of Calcutta. In 1945, in the first Entrance Examination (Matriculation/Secondary), out of 8 students, 4 passed successfully. In 1946, 17 students appeared for the examination, and 15 students passed with credit.[1]

Location

The school is on Ahsan Ahmad Road, Khulna town. To its east is Babu Khan Road and to its north is the Saint Joseph's Catholic Church.

Organisation

Currently, the school has 37 teachers (male and female combined). At present, education for the students is conducted in a single shift, and the total number of enrolled students is 1,850. The Roman Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Khulna serves as the president (chairperson) of this school. Various cultural activities, technology and science pursuits, and Scout activities are available for the students. The school has one academic building, one auditorium, and one Shaheed Minar (Martyrs' Monument).
