The Diocese of Šibenik (Latin: Dioecesis Sebenicensis; Croatian: Šibenska biskupija) is a Latin diocese of the Catholic Church in Croatia located in the city of Šibenik in the ecclesiastical province of Split-Makarska.[2][3] It was established in 1298 by the pope Boniface VIII.[4]

History

Diocese wes established by the papal bull of Boniface VIII, published on May 1st, 1528, and proclaimed in Šibenik on the June 28th of the same year.[4] First ordained bishop was Fr. Martin Rabljanin, prior of the St. Francis monastery in Šibenik.[4] St. Jacob's church in Šibenik was proclaimed as the bishoporic see; since it was destroyed in fire in 1380, new cathderal was built from 1431 to 1536 and consecrated in 1555.[4]
