Raven: A Journal of Vexillology is a peer‑reviewed academic journal devoted to the scholarly study of flags. It is published annually by the North American Vexillological Association (NAVA) and was established in 1994.[1]
History
Raven was created in 1994 as NAVA’s academic journal.[1] The journal has issued thematic volumes on topics such as Native American flags, American and Canadian city flags, Russian regional flags, and Vatican flags.[1]
Scope
The journal publishes research on:
- flag history and design
- symbolism and semiotics
- heraldry and emblematic traditions
- national, regional, and municipal flags
- indigenous and cultural flag traditions
- contemporary developments in flag usage
Raven accepts scholarly contributions in the field of vexillology.[2]
