Rajasthan State Seeds Corporation Limited (RSSCL) is a Government of Rajasthan agency. It was started on 28 March 1978. It helps farmers in Rajasthan by giving them good quality seeds. It works under the Department of Agriculture of the Rajasthan government.[1] The corporation makes seeds for wheat, pulses, and oilseed crops.[2]
History
The corporation was made under the Companies Act, 1956. It was part of the National Seed Project. This project was supported by the World Bank to help Indian farming.
Operations
RSSCL has 22 units in different districts of Rajasthan for seed processing. It can process about 1.9 million quintals of seeds every year.[2] The seeds are sold through dealers and the Rajasthan State Co-operative Marketing Federation (RAJFED).[3]
The corporation also runs state schemes:
Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Beej Uphaar Yojana: This scheme gives gifts like tractors to farmers who use certified seeds.[4]
Seed Minikits: It gives small seed kits to small and poor farmers for free.
Governance
The Rajasthan Government manages RSSCL. The Chairman is usually a political leader. In 2022, Dheeraj Gurjar was appointed as the Chairman of the corporation.[5]
