Asia, the central and eastern part of Eurasia, comprises approximately fifty countries.

• Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan.

• China, Hong Kong, Macau, North Korea, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Mongolia.

• Siberia and the Russian Far East in the Asia-Pacific region of Russia – an area east of the Ural Mountains.

• Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vietnam.

• Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, the Gaza Strip, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Yemen. Alternatively called Southwestern Asia. The Middle East, a widely used designation, constitutes roughly the same area, minus Egypt.

• Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh. A common approximate synonym for South Asia is the Indian subcontinent, plus Afghanistan.
