Port Blocker

A Port Blocker is a vital computer security component[1] that blocks and prevents open computer ports being used to compromise laptop, desktop, servers and other computer equipment.

Problem

BadUSB enabled memory sticks can be plugged into a computer's USB port for a few seconds to either capture your confidential data; insert malware or to prevent your computer working, even when it is not connected to a network[2]. Port Blockers can prevent these consequences and Juice jacking attacks. They can also provide Tamper-evidence of this been attempted.

Types

Permanent

These are intended to block ports, for good and offer tamper-evidence should their removal have been attempted.

Removable by Extraction Key

  • USB

  • Network port RJ45[3]
  • Media output, including: HDMi, serial and parallel ports.

Cable Locked

These prevent denial-of-service either intentionally or accidentally (e.g. when moving servers).

All these types of port blockers are computer hardware protection mechanisms.
