Ponyan is a town in the Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria. It forms part of the Okun-speaking belt in the northern section of Yagba land.
Geography
Ponyan occupies upland savanna terrain with scattered farmland and shrub vegetation. It is positioned northeast of Isanlu, the administrative headquarters of Yagba East.
Economy
Agriculture provides the main source of income. Farmers cultivate crops such as yam, cassava, maize, sorghum and cashew. Small livestock, particularly goats and poultry, are kept for local consumption and trade.
People and culture
Residents primarily speak the Yagba dialect of the Yoruba language. Christianity is the dominant religion, with traditional practices retained in community customs.
