Muhammad Usman Malik (Urdu: محمد عثمان ملک; born 28 June 2002) is a Pakistani actor, model, singer, and fashion figure.[2][3][4][5] He made his film debut in Parchi (2018), followed by Heer Maan Ja (2019), and appeared in the television series 22 Qadam (2023).[2] Malik works primarily in the Urdu-language entertainment industry. In addition to acting, he is active in the fashion sector[6], with involvement in modelling, editorial features, public appearances, and music videos.[7][8]

Early life

Muhammad Usman Malik began his acting career with roles in Pakistani cinema. He appeared in the comedy film Parchi (2018), followed by Heer Maan Ja (2019). Both films were commercially released and contributed to his visibility within the film industry[2][3].

He rose to prominence with Umro Ayyar and his role as Zubair in the 2022 film Ruposh, playing Haroon Kadwani's friend. Known for emotionally grounded performances in both supporting and lead roles[9], he has been praised for his versatility and audience connection, reflecting steady growth and a strong industry presence[10].

He later transitioned to television, appearing in the drama serial 22 Qadam[11][12] (2022). His work on television expanded his audience reach and positioned him among emerging performers in contemporary Pakistani drama[2][3].

Music

Malik is also involved in independent music as a singer[13] and songwriter. He has released several tracks, including Chidiya, Ranjhna, Mil Jao, and Jisam. His music features minimalist, lo-fi arrangements and introspective themes[14][15].

Malik began recording music independently using basic equipment, often working on songs alongside his acting commitments. He has described music as a more personal form of expression, emphasizing simplicity, emotional clarity, and sincerity in both composition and presentation[14][16].

Public image and fashion

Muhammad Usman Malik[17][18] has received considerable media attention for his unconventional fashion sense. His style, often described as experimental and gender-nonconforming, has sparked debate across entertainment media and social platforms[19][20].

Several publications have highlighted Malik as an example of how personal style can become central to a celebrity's identity, sometimes drawing attention away from professional work. Commentators have noted that his fashion choices challenge traditional norms of masculinity in entertainment culture[21][22][23][24].

Critical reception and discussion

Media commentary around Malik frequently focuses on the balance between craft and image. While some critics argue that his public persona overshadows his acting, others view his visibility as part of a broader cultural shift toward self-expression and individuality among younger artists[25][26].

This debate has placed Malik within ongoing discussions about celebrity branding, artistic freedom, and public perception in Pakistani media[25][27].

Controversies

Muhammad Usman Malik faced criticism for a photoshoot with an international undergarment brand Calvin Klein known for its provocative campaigns[28]. While the shoot received attention from global fashion audiences, conservative commentators in Pakistan accused him of promoting imagery inconsistent with local cultural values[29]. Malik responded on social media, emphasising the artistic nature of his work and the importance of expression[30][31][32].

In July 2025, Malik faced unverified rumors of financial trouble[33] after temporarily deactivating his social media accounts[34], which he denied[35], calling the reports baseless and attributing his absence to a personal break[36].

He faced public criticism after appearance with cricketer Haris Rauf, and a statement suggesting "Pakistan will also fight with India[37] in the showbiz field," which many deemed provocative and inappropriate[38][39].
