Muck (video game)

Muck is a 2021 free to play survival roguelike video game.^[1] It was created by Norwegian solo developer Dani and released on Steam on June 5.^[2] The game was developed in Unity.^[3]

Muck is set on a procedurally generated island, where the player has to collect resources, obtain food, craft tools and build a base in preparation for the night, when waves of enemies spawn.^[4][5] More and stronger enemies and bosses are encountered the longer the player survives. Killing monsters grants coins, which can be used to open loot chests containing powerups.^[5][6] Progress is reset upon death.^[6] Muck features both cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes.^[7] The gameplay was inspired by roguelike and survival games like Risk of Rain and Minecraft.^[8][9]

Alec Padua of WhatIfGaming praised the gameplay and visuals.^[8] Jonathan Bolding of PC Gamer wrote that it was "not awful".^[7] Ali Jones of GamesRadar+ wrote that "Not only was Muck genuinely good, it was also an interesting insight into game development, thanks to Sooman's video about the process of making the game."^[3]
