Mohammad Nazeer Paktyawal

On March 14, 2026, Afghan refugee 41 year Mohmammad Nzeer Paktyawal died at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas less than 24 hours after being taken into Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody.[1] He was deemed to have had no health issues at the time of his arrest.[2]

Background

Paktyawal was a father a six who fought alongside U.S. forces during 2001-2021 Afghanistan War as an Afghan special forces member and was evacuated from the country during 2021 Fall of Kabul.[3][4] At the time of his death, U.S. government alleged that their had been no record of this service.[5] However, advocates would push against this claim.[5] He entered America on August 20, 2021 in order to avoid getting killed by the Taliban and entered through the parole of an immigration officer.[6][7] However, this parole expired on August 20, 2025.[7] According to ICE, Paktyawal was arrested by local authorities for SNAP fraud on Sept. 16, 2025.[7] He was then allegedly arrested a second time for theft on Nov. 1, 2025.[7] His SNAP offense was a third degree felony, while his second arrest, which occurred after Paktyawal was accused of not paying for groceries and merchandise at a WalMart, was acknowledged to be a misdemeanor offense which had not even been filed with the district attorney's office.[5]
